No Employment Guarantee
Whether you spend a year or 5 years at university, it is no secret that this will not guarantee you a full-time career. It has been especially clear in recent years that after obtaining any kind of degree (including masters), many graduates are left unemployed for weeks, months or longer. This of course depends on the kind of industry you are heading into; however, university certainly does not come with a job title at the end.
Irrelevant Learning
In many degrees, it is found that some learning information, topics, and assessments are not always relevant or useful for a job in the real world. This is often why when graduates start off in their first job, they have to learn from the very bottom in order to gain an understanding. University will not always teach you real-life employment skills.

Lack Of Placements/Programmes
Usually when students head into their third or final year, they will be encouraged to go on placement in order to get a feel for an employment scenario. Due to COVID-19, placements have been lacking and there is now very little programmes implemented in universities offering students the chance to experience what it will be like in the industry. Therefore, students could go into employment with the wrong expectations and lack of knowledge.
Modern Ways Of Working
Apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular. This is where people leaving school can join a programme where they work in an employment scenario, gain hands-on experience, and earn money whilst obtaining some sort of qualification, many skills, and in some cases a full-time job at the end. Apprenticeships don’t include writing dissertations or 5000-word essays on topics, just real training for real experiences. It is a great way to climb the ladder.
